Premiere: Scottish up-and-comer Lockah mines video game climaxes for 'Sly Winking Usury'

The frenetic Aberdeen mad scientist returns with another maximalist soundscape.

Following the lunacy of Lockah’s rave-trap hybrid ‘Please Lockah, Don’t Hurt ‘Em’ is ‘Sly Winking Usury.’ While it draws from the same anything-goes mentality, there is a just a sliver of white space, making the bright lights that much brighter.

Lockah weaves together chip-tuned melodies, rave theatrics, and rap accents like scene-stealers Rustie and Hudson Mohawke, but with a general disregard for nuance. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing: isn’t the best part of the rave when you just let go?

Stream ‘Sly Winking Usury’ below; it appears on the Please Lockah, Don’t Hurt ‘Em EP, due on November 7 via Mishka. The Ninja Turtle homage of a cover and the tracklist follow.

Tracklist:
Please Lockah, Don’t Hurt ‘Em
Sly Winking Usury
This Is True Muscle Suicide
Please Lockah, Don’t Hurt ‘Em (Jaw Jam’s Rave Cave Remix)
This Is True Muscle Suicide (BF Hoodrich Remix)
