As we count down to tonight’s Mercury Prize, Alt-J have emerged as favourites for the crown.

The British group, whose real name is actually just a triangle (∆), are nominated for their debut album An Awesome Wave and have emerged as the bookmakers’ favourites: Paddy Power have them at evens, while William Hill have them at 11/8.

Richard Hawley (Standing at the Sky’s Edge – 4/1 on Paddy Power and 7/2 on William Hill), Django Django (Django Django – 7/1 on Paddy Power, 12/1 on William Hill) and Jessie Ware [above] (Devotion – 6/1 and 9/1 respectively) all could push Alt-J close, while Plan B, The Maccabees and and Lianne La Havas can be found around the 12/1-20/1 region at both bookmakers. Generally speaking, William Hill are giving more generous odds, so if you do fancy a bet tonight we’d favour them.

Live coverage of the Mercury Prize starts at 9.45pm on 4Music with the winner announced around 10pm, while the full award show is aired tomorrow night on Channel 4.

Update: As The Stool Pigeon point out, this afternoon has seen Field Music’s odds drop dramatically – there could be a twist in this story yet.
