Listen to a new track from Odd Future's Earl Sweatshirt, 'Chum'

Earl Sweatshirt proves why he’s the potential breakout star from his Odd Future compatriots.

Over a fuzzy bit of boom-bap, Earl (real name Thebe Neruda Kgositsile) “brushes some dirt up off his psyche,” rapping about his relationship with his parents, finding an older brother in Tyler, the Creator, and his reaction to Complex tracking him down (“you made my life harder”). Stream ‘Chum’ below.

As expected, Earl sounds more mature, both in voice and in lyrical content, and his undeniable skill with wordplay and storytelling has only gotten sharper. With his next album, he expects to lose fans who flocked to him because of early vivid tales of rape and murder: “I hope i lose you as a fan if you only fuck with me because i rapped about raping girls when i was 15.” [via CoS]
