Two experimental Los Angeles labels inaugurate a natural partnership with a new compilation.
Los Angeles label Leaving Records is teaming with Highland Park neighbors and spiritual peers Stones Throw Records for a distribution partnership that will be launched with Dual Form.
Leaving was co-founded by Brainfeeder beatsmith Matthewdavid and visual director Jesselisa Moretti in late 2009, and they’ve released hand-curated cassettes by far-flung artists from across the world, both physically and stylistically, ever since.
Rather than a greatest hits compilation, all of the tracks on Dual Form are new, original recordings, including songs by Julia Holter (who offers a cover of Arthur Russell’s ‘You and Me Both’), Anticon founder Odd Nosdam, Dntel, and Sun Araw, among others. The cassette release will feature three exclusive Matthewdavid songs.
The double cassette is due out November 6, with vinyl / CD / digital to follow on January 22. In addition to Dual Form, Stones Throw will begin distributing select Leaving releases, starting with The Cyclist’s debut album in early 2013. Stream the UK producer’s ‘Visions’ below, which is followed by the compilation tracklist.
