Weirdos In Paris.

Hippos In Tanks poster boy James Ferraro has just released surprisingly straightforward new LP Sushi. At the end of the month, meanwhile, Hype Williams’ Dean Blunt will reissue his knotty The Narcissist II extended composition. In a move that was probably inevitable, the two mischief-makers have combined forces for a new 18 minute piece, upped onto Blunt’s Soundcloud. Rather brilliantly, it’s called ‘Watch The Throne’.

In contrast to Jay-Z/Yeezy’s bottled bravado, ‘Watch The Throne’ is about as dolorous as it gets: the results sound like a short play about a depressed lounge pianist, muttering to himself as waiters circle and an indifferent crowd yammers away. Blunt plays a battered Fender Rhodes and sings (well, mumbles), whilst Ferraro tinkles away quietly on a grand piano. There’s a bit of electronic tinkering but, for the most part, ‘Watch The Throne’ locks into a non-groove and stays there. According to Self-Titled Mag  the pair are readying a joint tour – it’ll be fascinating to see what these two skewed minds manage to cook up together next.
