Premiere: Stream the debut release from fast-rising 15 year old producer Happa

Without wanting to harp on about his age, 15 year old producer Happa is making remarkably mature music for one so young.

Whether working as Zadeh (glitchy, furtive) or Happa (rollicking, futureshocked), the Leeds producer has obvious technical finesse and plenty of creative flair. Four Tet’s been sounding off about him, as have parts of the Hessle Audio contingent and Nicolas Jaar.

Happa is about to debut on fledgling label Church – previously responsibly for Lorca’s jacking ‘Faith Evans Refix’ – with the Beat Of The Drum 12″. Snips of the record have previously done the rounds, but FACT now have an exclusive stream of the record in its entirety.

As opening salvos go, it’s a strong showing. The title track is a neat bit of throttled techno, setting brooding sub-bass over Stomp! riddims. ‘Bring It Back’, meanwhile, is a straight-down-the-line house track, full of retro snare hits and SID chip burbles. Throwing Snow also contributes a skittering remix of the former, and Church bosses Apes & Seb Wildblood go to town on the latter.

Beat Of The Drum is due on November 19.
