J Dilla's seminal Donuts re-released as box set

The pinnacle of hip-hop beatmaking gets a nifty reissue.

Donuts was released just three days before J Dilla’s tragic passing, on February 7, 2006. Early next year, Stones Throw Records will re-release the album as a box set of 45s.

The 8 x 7″ boxset will also include rare bonus material: the out-of-print ‘Signs’ and ‘Snipe Elite & Murder Goons’, featuring DOOM and Ghostface Killah. The tracks have never before appeared on vinyl. Additionally, Side D contains ‘Donuts Outro/Intro’ appearing as an interlude at the beginning of ‘The Diff’rence,’ a hat tip to the first, original sequence of the album.

The boxset is expected to ship on January 7, and it’s available to pre-order now. Stream ‘The Diff’rence’ below; the album art follows. Last week, Dilla’s estate announced plans to release even more unreleased material in 2013.
