Houston jukesmith Wheez-ie shares free EP

Download a juked-out Christmas classic and a hardcore throwback from the up-and-comer.

Matt “Wheez-ie” Mauldin first caught out attention last year with a pair of juke-and-acid remixes of Distal’s ‘Coke Bottle’. Since then, he has released music on Distal’s Embassy imprint and Brighton-based Well Rounded Records.

Today, Wheez-ie shares a two-song effort in time for the holidays. While the first track is a juke remix of ‘Sleigh Ride’, the second is an homage to early 90s breakbeat hardcore a la Where Were U in ’92?. “I’m from Houston and when I lived in Boston I would get really depressed during the winter season so I’d try to write fun tracks that reminded me of going out to summer parties in Houston,” he says of the simply-titled ‘I Miss Houston Summers’.

Download the tracks below. In addition to a follow-up to his Keep Yer Chin Up EP on Embassy, Wheez-ie is starting a label called Southern Belle Recordings. Stay tuned for a full announcement soon.
