First The xx, now Swans.

Following the lead of XL’s pre-eminent black-clad whisperers, Michael Gira & co are to curate their own mini-festival. On April 4, London’s Koko will play host to a series of acts handpicked by Gira, plus a headline performance from Swans. The event – christened Mouth To Mouth – will be focused on “urgent performance-orientated music, irrespective of arbitrary genres or styles”.

Mercury Rev will be appearing under the moniker Mercury Rev Tettix Experiment, which will presumably see them tinkering around with Grasshopper’s homemade Tettix Wave Accumulator. Skewed pop singer Xiu Xiu will also be appearing, as will incredible Bedroom Community affiliate Ben Frost. More acts are yet to be announced.

According to Gira the festival is “the first instalment in what we hope to be a yearly festival, focused on disparate music and genres. Artists are chosen based on their ability to resuscitate, set fire to the air, or to mesmerise. All of the performers chosen for this year’s festival I find personally to be compelling in this regard. The goal: joy!” [via The Quietus].

Tickets can be nabbed here. Swans recent LP The Seer did very well indeed in our Best Albums Of 2012 list.
