Boddika’s 2011 track ‘Soul What’ has been given a steely revamp by Swamp81 regular Mickey Pearce. 

Boddika’s original cropped up on the flip of last year’s 2727 EP, and set chilly synth washes over a knuckly UK funky beat. In January 2013, Swamp81 will release a new version of the track by Boddika himself, backed by a fresh take from Pearce on the flip. The latter is now available to stream, and it shows Pearce on fine – if unusually strait-laced 0 form.

As anyone who’s dipped into his recent FACT mix will know, Pearce specialises in mutant house, full of weird touches and sleights of hand. The ‘Soul What’ remix, by contrast, is relatively straightforward, with Pearce trading the rhythmic shuffle of the original for something much more rigid. Still, Pearce doesn’t do pedestrian, and the creepy vocal cut-ups and burbling hook lines up the oddness count considerably.
