The latest young pretender to step up for a 2 hour BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix is Hotflush/Aus Music regular George FitzGerald.

The producer’s robust, unfussy house music was difficult to dodge in 2012, and his Essential Mix is a strong selection (if, admittedly, short on the curveballs). Opening with classic material from 69, FitzGerald’s mix is a Dummies Guide to house’s new breed, with reps for Bicep, Huxley, Midland and Locked Groove. There are a few nods towards FitzGerald’s own Man Make Music imprint, plus FitzGerald remixes of Jessie Ware and Close (w/ Scuba). In related news, Scuba pulled together a short mix of classic tracks from the Hotflush catalogue for Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show on Friday.
