French beatmaker Onra to release collaborative album of "deep, spiritual jazz"

Onra promises “therapeutic” and “liberating” jams on his latest project.

In the wake of 2010’s impossibly slick Long Distance LP, the Parisian producer momentarily edged away from his velvety R&B sound, issuing the Dilla-indebted Chinoiseries Pt. 2. A 2012 EP for Fool’s Gold saw Onra recruit T3 and Jay Kin for more silky smooth beat sessions, but his latest project finds him trading scented candles for licks and horns.

The Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo sees Onra join forces with jazzy beatmaker Buddy Sativa, responsible for 2011’s Deus Ex Machina on French label Favorite Recordings. Having previously collaborated on Deus Ex Machina cut ‘Indica’, the pair have spent the last two years experimenting with “spiritual, deep jazz”. The pair’s self-titled debut album, due on Irish beatmaker stable All City, will feature 12 new jams, and promises cosmic fusion music conceived in a spirit of “no-rules-spontaneity”. Brooklyn poet Aja Money guests on album centrepiece ‘The Time Is Now’.

Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo is due on April 9 on vinyl and digital. The release will be preceded by a limited edition 7″. [via XLR8R]
