Jessie Ware and Prince together at last?

You have to admit it, some artists still have the power to surprise even in an era where information is so readily available, and this latest drop from London songstress Jessie Ware does exactly that. Coming seemingly out of nowhere Ware coolly posted a link to a brand new cover of US pop star Martika’s 1991 single ‘Love Thy Will Be Done’ and that was it – a new track without any of the usual fanfare (take that Boards of Canada). The track was co-written by Prince, retaining plenty of his trademark latent sexuality underpinning Martika’s coo-ing vocals, and Ware loses none of it by stripping back some of the original’s gloss.

Ware clearly has a love for the track, and her cover is full of warmth, reminding us of a time when artists covered music because they liked it rather than simply vying for viral success, and who can argue with that?
