Dalston is the place.

While Sun Ra himself passed away back in 1993, his life’s work continues today with the Sun Ra Arkestra under the direction of saxophonist and veteran Arkestra member Marshall Allen. The influential ensemble of improvisors are set to return to Dalston’s Cafe Oto in August for an epic five-day residency (their fifth if anyone’s counting), and anyone who caught the Arkestra’s last Oto shows should know how essential it’s going to be.

Beginning August 23 and running until August 27, the venue will play host to some of the most spiritual out-there jazz sounds this side of Saturn, and whether you’re into rap, electronic music or extreme noise we’d say there’s a good chance you’re going to hear something that will pique your interest.
