East Coast hip-hop legends Naughty By Nature apparently split up mid-tour

New Jersey hip-hop combo Naughty By Nature appears to have imploded mid-tour.

The three-piece, made up of Treach, Vin Rock and DJ Kay Gee, have a long and august history: see 1991’s massive crossover hit ‘O.P.P’; a string of successful albums (notably 1991’s self-titled LP and 1993’s 19 Naughty III, home to ‘Hip Hop Hooray’); and 1996’s Poverty’s Paradise, the winner of the inaugural Grammy for Best Rap Album. The group fell apart after a financial dispute in the early 2000s, eventually reuniting at the tail-end of the decade following a rep on the VH1 Hip-Hop Honours show.

The group are currently touring the US to celebrate the 20th anniversary of 19 Naughty III. As Complex report, however, the group’s current stint seems to have come to an abrupt end. Group member Treach has unleashed some potent Twitter vitriol against fellow rapper Vin Rock, apparently firing him from the group. His messages read:

Vinnie from NAUGHTY BY NATURE is Officially FIRED!! Anything he does besides shows til Sept is Frugazy!! Fuck him & the Ground he Walks!!

Anybody that fucks with that Bitch ass Nigga Don’t Fuck with Me!!

Complex also point towards a post on Vinnie’s Instagram that apparently corroborates the news, although the image has now been removed. ‘Hip Hop Hooray’ is below – raise a glass, and wipe away a tear.
