Live Nation charged in connection with last year's Radiohead stage collapse

The collapse at Toronto Downsview Park killed 33-year old drum technician Scott Johnson.

The Toronto Star reports that the Ministry of Labour has laid eight charges against Live Nation (Live Nation Canada Inc. and Live Nation Ontario Concerts GP Inc.), four against Optex Staging & Services Inc., and one against an individual engineer. No charges were brought against Radiohead or their touring company.

The collapse occurred before Radiohead took the stage on June 16, killing Johnson and injuring three others (one seriously). The charges are the result of an investigation that began shortly after the collapse, which also led to calls for industry-wide safety changes.

The first court appearance is scheduled for June 27. While details of the charges were not immediately released, The New York Times reports that the government faulted Live Nation for failing to live up to a provincial law’s requirement that a building or structure support “any loads that may be applied to it.”
