The Replacements to reunite for first live shows in 22 years

The Replacements – rollicking 1980s US punk combo, and some of the great nearly-men of their time – are back.

At the turn of the year, the band reassembled to produce an EP in aid of former guitarist Slim Dunlap, who has been recovering from a stroke. Songs For Slim  – their first official recording since 1990 – saw classic members Paul Westerberg, Tommy Stinson and Chris Mars all appear in various configurations to perform a collection of covers.

22 years after their last performance together, The Replacements have announced they will take to the stage once again for a handful of Stateside festival shows. Westerberg and Stinson are both confirmed to appear, with the rest of the line-up set to be announced in the coming months.

The Chicago outfit will headline three instalments of the multi-state Riot Fest: an appearance at the Toronto edition, running from August 24-25 at Fort York; a spot at the Chicago leg in Humboldt Park between September 13-15; and a show at the Denver run at May Farms, scheduled from September 21-22.

Audio of the band’s last show in 1991 is available below. [via Pitchfork]
