London nightclub East Village has its license suspended after "serious crime"

Shoreditch club East Village has had its license suspended, and has closed with immediate effect.

The venue, which has hosted the Night Slugs clubnight and more for years, announced on its Facebook page that “The promotions and music team had the shocking and totally unexpected news that East Village’s licence was suspended this week, with a full review pending within a month”, with this weekend’s Soultogether party moved to Old Street’s Nomad.

As Resident Advisor point out, however, a notice posted outside the venue reveals that the Metropolitan Police have asked Hackney council to review the club’s licence on the grounds of it being “associated with serious crime”, with “a joint op between the Money Laundering Team and Licensing Unit [leading] to the arrest of two men connected to East Village nightclub for an offence under the Proceeds of Crime Act.”

East Village isn’t the only East London nightclub in trouble: The Macbeth is currently under threat from a new housing development.
