Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean they’re not after you.

Controversy-baiting rapper M.I.A. has taken to Tumblr to point out that the much-criticised lyrics to her song ‘The Message’, which linked Google to the government, have turned out to be spookily prescient.

The lyrics to the song, on the album /\/\/\Y/\, include this verse: “Headbone connects to the neckbone / Neckbone connects to the armbone / Armbone connects to the handbone / Handbone connects to the internet/ Connected to the Google / Connected to the government.”

Following the revelation that the U.S. National Security Agency has been spying on citizens using data from internet companies such as Google and Facebook, M.I.A posted the statement “who said this 3 years ago?” on her Tumblr, above a long list of reviews that criticised the song as “paranoid” and “simplistic”. “As effective as someone in a dorm room ranting about the C.I.A. inventing A.I.D.S.,” said one reviewer.

M.I.A. is currently preparing her fourth album, Matangistream a mix of instrumental material set to be included on the record.
