The New York veteran pays tribute to murdered black teenager Trayvon Martin with a rough cut of a vicious protest track.

The song sees Pharoahe Monch flip the controversial ‘Stand Your Ground’ law, which helped acquit Martin’s killer George Zimmerman, into a message of defiance against the system.

Here’s a sample of the lyrics: “They’ll say I’ve lost my mind claim that I’m psychotic / He’s a fucking traitor he’s unpatriotic / But I learned in life truth it must be slated / And I know my rights they’re un-alienated / Descendent of the blood of slaves / Used to be the one afraid / Until I learned my soul’s divine amalgamate let’s combine unify get in line and stand your ground.”

The ‘Simon Says’ rapper is the latest musician to wade into the national debate over the acquittal, after Beyoncé called for a moment of silence mid-way through a concert in Nashville and both Wyclef Jean and Young Jeezy released songs in tribute to Martin.

The rock and roll backdrop of ‘Stand Your Ground’ fulfils Pharoahe Monch’s promise of a “lot of rock joints” on his forthcoming album, reportedly called Rock vs. Disco. No news yet on a release date.
