He’s doing it again.

Wiley‘s unceremonious early departure from the stage of Cumbrian music festival CockRock gifted us with a barrage of typically high energy tweets. Exclaiming “Fuck them pagans in Cumbria”, the Godfather of grime went on to brag about his generous £15,000 fee, which now it seems is in dispute.

In an interview with BBC’s Newsbeat, he stated that the legal action being taken by the festival’s Marie Whitehead was unjustified: “They say it’s a charity event and they want their money back, I’ve just stood on stage and been coined and bottled. Obviously I’m not giving the money back.”

He went on to explain it had been talked about in advance with the artist liaison. “The woman who was looking after us said if it gets too much, come off. After 15 minutes I looked at the floor and it was covered in coins. Any one of those coins could have taken my eye out.”

Typically though, Wiley saved the best until last, clarifying that when he called the Cumbrians “pagans” he simply meant “idiots” (as if that’s any better): “Pagan’s just a word but they don’t know that yet, It’s a London thing. I don’t want them to think I hate Cumbria.” [via The Guardian]
