That rare Radiohead demo cassette, featuring several unheard songs, has been sold at an auction for £2,000.

The tape dates back to 1986, when the band were named On A Friday, and according to Stockport’s Omega Auctions [via NME], is the “only known copy to exist.” Although some of the songs featured on the tape, such as ‘Girl (In The Purple Dress)’ have been available to hear online for some time, there are others – ‘Mountains (On The Move)’, for instance – that will be completely new to Radiohead fans, many of whom will doubtless be hoping that the cassette is immediately ripped and distributed online.

The cassette came from an old friend from the band’s day at Abingdon School. You can stream ‘Girl (In A Purple Dress)’, which has a neat piano house-meets-The Cure vibe to it, below, and read FACT’s recent interview with Thom Yorke here.
