The rapper responds to the charges of criminal battery and attempted grand theft.

Kanye West’s attorney has claimed he acted in “self-defence” when he got in a fight with a paparazzo Daniel Ramos and tried to snatch his camera after arriving at Los Angeles International Airport on July 19.

The rapper’s attorney has now filed papers in response to Ramos’ civil suit saying that Kanye’s “safety was in immediate danger” and he “responded to this assault by doing only those acts that were reasonably necessary for his self-defence”, according to documents seen by TMZ.

Ramos suffered hip injuries and went to hospital after the incident. Kanye could face a maximum of one year in jail if convicted on both counts.

The rapper’s been on the other side of the pond this week for a must-hear interview with BBC Radio 1 presenter Zane Lowe, in which he goes into depth about the making of Yeezus. He’s also just announced his next production outing, working with singer Charlie Wilson.
