New quintuple vinyl set highlights some of the more adventurous producers at the edges of drum n bass.

Berlin’s Samurai Music Group is celebrating ten releases on its Samurai Horo imprint with an impressive compilation of new and exclusive experimental dance music released on quintuple vinyl set, CD and digital.

As you’ll know from reading our recent feature on how drum n bass got its groove back, there has been a lot of interesting movement within the scene in recent years and the Berlin label is the latest to capitalise on this with Scope. The ambitious compilation brings together the scene’s more experimental and daring producers for a selection of tracks that sit somewhere between the dancefloor and the headphones.

Appearing on the compilation are veterans such as Klute, ASC and Loxy alongside upcomers and increasingly recognised younger talents such as New Zealand’s Fis, Berlin’s Es.Tereo, Japan’s ENA and the UK’s Indigo and Elemental, who both got a mention in our recent feature.

The music on Scope places great emphasis on space and atmosphere, with the label admitting that they’ve sought tracks from “artists willing to experiment, take risks and truly progress”. Es.Tereo and Marlyn’s ‘Cutting You Loose’ is a particularly good example of how the music on Scope breaks with tradition while staying rooted in its bpm and vibe.

Scope is released on September 30 on quintuple vinyl 12″s, CD and digital, available via their Surus shop. Both the vinyl and digital packages include exclusive tracks. Hear previews and see the full tracklist below.
