Composer Ennio Morricone plans performances with 200-member orchestra

The legendary Italian composer will make his West Coast live debut in 2014.

The 84-year-old Morricone is best known for his work on Spaghetti Westerns like Once Upon a Time in the West and the Dollars Trilogy, along with famous scores for Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables, Barry Levinson’s Bugsy, and Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven, among countless others.

In 2014, Morricone will lead a 200-member orchestra in performances of his best known compositions. The dates are on March 20 at LA’s Nokia Theatre and March 23 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Arena; tickets go on-sale October 23 and 25, respectively. Along with influencing generations of composers, Morricone’s music has been sampled by everyone from Jay Z to the Orb; last year’s Djano Unchained soundtrack included both classic and newly composed Morricone works. [via CoS]
