Awards show given proper airing.

The Mercury Prize awards show is to be broadcast in full for the first time next week, with viewers able to watch the prize-giving and all the live performances over two sittings on Channel 4 and More4.

Live coverage of the event, which takes place at London’s Roundhouse next Wednesday, October 30, will begin with a 45 minute programme on More4 at 9.30pm. The overall winner will then be revealed live on Channel 4 at 10pm. The entire awards show, including all live performances, will then be broadcast in full the following evening (Thursday, October 31) at 11pm on Channel 4.

The ceremony will be hosted by 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne with TV coverage fronted by Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw. [via Music Week]

This year’s favourites are David Bowie’s unexpected comeback album The Next Day and the debut from brotherly duo Disclosure, who may have scared off the judges last week by releasing, then immediately pulling, a drug-fuelled video for the single ‘Help Me Lose My Mind’.

Sadly not in the running this year is the self-released comeback album by Irish shoegazers My Bloody Valentine, whose frontman Kevin Shields recently complained about being “banned” from the award.
