Beck plans new album for 2014 release entitled Morning Phase

The proper follow-up to 2008’s Modern Guilt is due out early next year.

First teased in the summer, Morning Phase is described in a press release as “a companion piece of sorts to Beck’s 2002 classic Sea Change” that “harkens back to the stunning harmonies, song craft and staggering emotional impact of that record, while surging forward with infectious optimism.”

While he hasn’t released a “proper” album since Modern Guilt, Beck has stoked his creative and musical flames: he released the sheet-music-only Song Reader in 2012, performed the songs with a variety of special guests, shared a 360-degree take on David Bowie’s ‘Sound and Vision’, released a handful of singles, and participated in Doug Aitken’s Station to Station art happening.

Morning Phase will be released by Capitol Records in February 2014, with other details to be announced. Until then, stream recent single ‘Gimme’ below.
