The shadiest man in pop has shared his contribution to the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack.

Produced (or reduced) by full-bearded recording guru and Yeezus collaborator Rick Rubin, ‘Devil May Cry’ sees The Weeknd in relatively conventional pop mode, singing over fingerpicked guitar and the kind of huge, crashing drums required to soundtrack a post-apocalyptic It’s A Knockout. It’s pretty decent, as these things go.

The Catching Fire OST also features material from Coldplay, Lorde, The Lumineers, Christina Aguilera, Santigold, Sia and Diplo.

The Weeknd released Kiss Land, his first album proper, this September, and he’s currently on the road with Justin Timberlake supporting his 20/20 Experience tour. Rubin’s had a high-profile year too, helping Kanye West rein in Yeezus and producing Eminem’s comeback single ‘Berserk’. [via The Smoking Section]
