Drake shares audio of new posthumous collaboration with Aaliyah

Drake has uploaded audio of a new posthumous collaboration with Aaliyah

The Drake/Aaliyah thing’s rumbled on for a while. Early last year, Drake – who has an Aaliyah tattoo, lest we forget – posted a “new” Aaliyah track, which combined vocals from the deceased singer with a Drake guest verse and production by Drake’s right hand man Noah ’40’ Shebib. The audio followed numerous reports that Drake would be executive producing a new Aaliyah album, and angered Aaliyah fans who’d rather the project be helmed by her regular collaborators Missy Elliot and Timbaland.

More light was shed on the story by Aaliyah’s cousin Jomo Hankerson, who told Billboard that a 16-track album was on the way, executive produced by Drake and Shebib with input from Timbaland and Missy (though Timbo won’t be producing new music for it). Aaliyah’s brother Rashad, however, distanced himself from the project, stating that “there is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family”.

Since then, it’s all been quiet – until now. Today Drake posted a video on Instagram of him looking forlorn (what else?) while listening to a new Drake/Aaliyah collaboration [via Young Money HQ]. Drake recently stated that he’d be dropping around four new tracks before the end of the year, maybe this will feature among them?
