Rob Booth's (Houndstooth) favourites of 2013

So 2013 for me has been without doubt the busiest and most rewarding year of my life. Signing Paul Woolford’s Special Request project, the rise of Call Super, Akkord releasing a long player that has even had the techno legends asking for wavs! Houndstooth October label of the month in Resident Advisor was certainly up there and the Boiler Room label showcase in April, just fantastic! To finally meet all the people I’ve known for years online but have been 300 miles north, I salute you.

Outside of the label I’ve been astounded by RVNG Intl, they are my label of 2013 alongside Subtext in Bristol. I am again impressed with the output of L.I.E.S, Hospital Productions, Opal Tapes, Sued, The Trilogy Tapes, PAN, the four Demdike Test Presses, BEB, Antinote, Fade To Mind, Livity Sound, Samurai (Horo/Red), Downwards celebrating 20 years in the game, Lussuria, Robedoor @ Corsica, Adult @ XOYO, Haxan Cloak @ Birthday’s and the takeover of all three rooms from Hessle Audio at Fabric.

Watching Vatican Shadow LIVE and drenching the crowd with cans of Heineken at fabric, an amazing live set from Diamond Version at the VU and Snow Ghosts debut live gig at St Pancras Church.

Objekt and Peverelist @ Free Rotation, what a fucking wicked festival that is and the stunning Kazimierz area of Krakow for Unsound, to be in the same room as Mike Banks and UR, mind blowing and what a beautiful area of Poland.

Some of my fav albums of the year – Roly Porter – Life Cycle of a Massive Star, Paul Jebanasam – Rites, Akkord – Akkord, The Haxan Cloak – Excavation, Robedoor – Primal Sphere, Special Request – Soul Music, Shxcxchcxsh ‎– Strgths, Donato Dozzy – Plays Bee Mask, Lussuria  American Babylon, Diamond Version – EPS 1-5, Sandwell District Fabric mix CD, Anthony Child – The Space Between People And Things, Logos – Cold Mission, Maxmillion Dunbar – House of Woo, Young Echo – Nexus, The KVB ‎– Immaterial Visions, Huerco S. – Colonial Patterns and everything on BEB, Stroboscopic Artefacts, Spectrum Spools, Minimal Wave and Vester Voza’s production.

As for EPs, Pearson Sound – HES026 stood out, same Paul Woolford’s Overload track, Anthony Naples, Tessela, Immaterial Visions Remixes and the Roly Porter remix of Snow Ghosts is just crazy good.  I’ve got a soft spot for the FKA Twigs and Kelela projects, and I’m buying cassette tapes again thanks to Kahn, Neek and Sonic Router.
