Over a year since his last studio single, French house/techno/what-have-you veteran Laurent Garnier has announced his return to recording – with a streamlined new alias to boot.

Jerome Derradji’s Still Music label have been diligent archivers of Chicago’s house history over the last few years: 2012’s 122 BPM” The Birth Of House Music is as good a primer to house music’s fledgling steps as we’ve heard, and last year’s fine Kill Yourself Dancing and Bang The Box compilations cast some light on undersung early imprints Sunset Records and AKA Music.

Still’s next release will arrive from F Recordings boss Garnier, trading for the first time as, simply, Garnier. AF 0490 will feature three throwback tracks, supposedly intended to “pay respect to the heroes of Trax, Dancemania and to the Chicago sound.” That’s particularly the case on ‘Boom (Chakolak)’, which apes the rapid-fire bumps and claps of classic booty house.

AF 0490 marks Garnier’s first non-remix release since 2012’s Timeless EP – released, somewhat improbably, through electro pedlars Ed Banger. Further Garnier releases are due before the year is out on a number of different labels, with Modeselektor’s 50Weapons also slated to release a 12″ from the producer.

AF 0490 is due on February 25 through Still Music.

Tracklist:
A1 – Bang (The Underground Doesn’t Stop)
B1 – Boom (Chakolak)
B2 – Beat (Da BoxX)
