Tree drops 'Like Woah' from forthcoming The @MCTreeG EP

The Chicago rapper flexes his ‘soul trap’ sound.

Tree is back at the end of the month with a freebie EP, the rather awkwardly named The @MCTreeG EP, via Scion AV.

Ahead of its appearance on January 21, he’s dropped off the first track, ‘Like Woah’, which sees him in his more reflective mode, croaking out armchair advice from the perspective of a someone who’s been around the block a bit: “First you gotta grind, then you let ’em know / When they see you shine, everybody be like woah.”

The 29-year-old delivered one of last year’s strongest mixtapes in the shape of Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out, which nabbed the 37th spot on our list of the year’s Top 50 Albums of 2013 with its filigree alternative to Chicago’s hard-edged sound.
