Terry Farley seeking out publisher for book on acid house

Pioneering DJ Terry Farley has gone and written a book about acid house, and now he’s looking for a publisher.

Written with Raoul Galloway, Before Jack Had A Groove tells the story running up to the acid house explosion in 1988, looking at the “soul boys and girls” who built the foundations for the scene.

The first chapter, ‘All The Young Dudes’, is available to read on Testpressing and focuses on the King’s Road and the scene around clothing shops Acme Attractions and Sex. Those interviewed for the book include Don Letts, Andrew Weatherall, Norman Jay, Acme Eric, Nancy Stannard, Chris Sullivan and Steve Lewis.

Farley is asking anyone who is interested in getting the book in print to get in touch.

As a co-founder of the famed clubbing zine Boy’s Own, Farley was one of the biggest players in the UK’s nascent acid house scene. Last year he put together a huge five-CD set of classic acid house and deep house from Chicago, titled Acid Rain.

A great week for acid house fans, then, what with the revelation that Roland might be bringing back the TB-303 – check out FACT’s 20 best acid house records. [via RA]
