My Favourite Record is a new weekly feature where we ask musicians we rate from across the spectrum to pick their most cherished album – a development of our occasional On Record feature, and a chance to take a peek at the albums that maketh the artist. Today’s entry:

Rhythim is Rhythim
‘Strings of Life’
(Transmat, 12″, 1987)

Picked by: Chicago house stalwart and Mr. ‘Gabrielle’ himself, Roy Davis Jr.

roy davis jr fav record“‘Strings of Life’ was pure genius to me, the way the strings were played so elegantly but with a punch, and how the piano hit so hard with a bangin’ drum beat – to die for!

“Pure at heart type of electronic music, this piece of art will always remain a classic to me. The originators are often imitated but cant be duplicated in sound and rawness. Rhythim Is Rhythim had all of us in Chicago slam dancing. Never to be forgotten in my book, just a masterpiece.”
