Ex-Gang Gang Dance drummer Tim DeWit preps debut release as Dutch E Germ

The underground veteran prepares his first solo effort.

After toiling in the DC hardcore scene, Tim DeWit co-founded Gang Gang Dance with Brian Degraw, contributing to the band’s first albums. However, while taking a break from music after recording 2008’s Saint Dymphna he suffered a near-fatal gunshot wound that forced him to shift his focus from live performance to studio production.

A veteran presence in the New York underground electronic music scene, he has contributed to Venus X’s legendary Ghe2o G0th1k parties, remixed the likes of Fatima al Qadiri, and composed runway soundtracks for Hood By Air; his ‘HBA WAR’ track was sampled by Kanye West and company on ‘New Slaves’.

Next month, he’ll release his first full-length work under his Dutch E Germ alias, the 11-track IN.RAK.DUST, via UNO NYC. Like label mate Gobby, DeWit brings a drummer’s ear to his noisy, often Eastern-tinged sound experiments. The cover art and tracklist are below, along with the Total Freedom-produced soundtrack that he scored for Hood by Air’s recent Fashion Week show.
