Route 94 - 002 - RINSE 8399copy

Update: The results are in: Route 94 edged out ‘Happy’ and ‘Rather Be’ for the top spot on the charts.

En route to the top?

Breakthrough act Route 94 is on course for a number one with ‘My Love’, his pop-house collaboration with singer Jess Glynne, according to today’s iTunes UK charts.

Nothing’s set in stone, mind – tracks that zoom to the top spot in the midweeks have a tendency to crumble against the might of established hits come Sunday, so he’d better watch his back for Pharrell and, er, Jess Glynne, who’s also in the top three with Clean Bandit’s perky ‘Rather Be’, not to mention Coldplay’s new single.

Formerly known as dubstep producer Dream, Route 94 piqued our interest back in 2012 when his track ‘My Window’ appeared on New York Transit Authority’s FACT mix; he also turned in a mix for Skream and Benga’s Radio 1 show. Since then he’s set up his own label, released his Fly For Life EP and delivered remixes for Storm Queen and MK.

The explosion of chart-friendly house music over the past 12 months has seen plenty of FACT favourites approach the top spot (Disclosure, Katy B and MK to name a few), but a forthcoming change in how the charts are compiled looks set to be disastrous for underground acts, as FACT’s Chal Ravens warned last week.

Here’s the video for ‘My Love’:
