Can to get two-volume biography featuring contributions from Geoff Barrow, James Murphy and more

Official history of the krautrock heroes on the way.

After a swathe of popular reissues, including last year’s exhaustive 17-LP box set, iconic German band Can are to be explored in an official two-volume biography.

The book is being written by Rob Young, who as a former editor of The Wire magazine and author of books on Warp Records, Rough Trade and the British folk tradition, is certain to be a safe pair of hands for the epic task.

Published by Faber Social, the first volume is due in the spring of 2016 and detail the history of the group, including interviews with band members.

The second volume is described as a ‘symposium’ that will see the band’s keyboardist Irmin Schmidt help curate a selection of essays about Can. Contributors include Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, LCD Soundsytem’s James Murphy, Mute Records founder Daniel Miller and producer Andrew Weatherall.

Back in 2009, FACT met Can’s Holger Czukay to find out why he was “fired for being too intriguing”. [via Exclaim]
