UNKLE reconstruction

After quite a wait, James Lavelle‘s UNKLE project returns to the remixing game.

Last we heard from Lavelle, he was revealing the first acts on his handpicked line-up for this year’s Meltdown festival. Today, Lavelle slips out his curator’s seat and back into the producer’s chair, unveiling the first official UNKLE remix in four years.

Lavelle’s subjects are sprightly garage rock combo Radkey; the UNKLE “reconstruction” reimagines the original as high-budget, high-drama electronica. Click below to listen.

Lavelle caught the band’s debut London set at the Camden Barfly last year, and he’s since enlisted them for Meltdown. According to Lavelle, the commission was a no-brainer: “Having not done an UNKLE remix for some time, Radkey’s ‘Romance Dawn’ seemed like the perfect track to come back with. This band have endless energy and excitement and you can’t buy that shit!”

Lavelle’s Meltdown will feature appearances from Neneh Cherry, ESG, Goldie (performing Timeless in full with The Heritage Orchestra), Mark Lanegan, Mica Levi performing Under The Skin, and more. Head here for further information.
