The-Dream backs Kanye on “classism is the new racism”.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Terius Nash, and he’s chosen to drop his powerful new song ‘BLACK’ just hours after the Los Angeles Clippers took to the court for the first time since team owner Donald Sterling’s racist comments saw him banned from the NBA for life.

The accompanying video collects clips of the civil rights movement, Occupy protests, Pussy Riot and more, including the Clippers’ on-court protest last week, which saw them wearing their shirts inside out to cover the team’s name.

It’s not easy to pull off lyrics about race, class and economics, but Nash’s chorus – “I’m feeling real black right now” – and the video’s closing message hit hard:

Black isn’t just a color. Black isn’t just a race anymore. It’s a feeling and a place from which one feels isolated by the world of the governing elite. Classism is the new racism. This is what black feels like.

Watch the video above. Last year, FACT interviewed The-Dream about sex, lies, the music industry, and why monogamy is “like trying to re-do biology”.
