Babe Rainbow returns with Falling Apart LP, shares melancholic 'Twin Peaks'

Plus — an instructional video…?

Vancouver’s Cameron “Babe Rainbow Reed released a pair of experimental electronic EPs on Warp Records at the beginning of the decade, and he’ll conclude the trilogy of releases with his debut full length, Falling Apart. The album was produced over three years while Reed was on the road with Battles, with oOoOo and as part of How To Dress Well’s band.

“The tone and feel of each record reflects where I was at in my life at the time of writing. In four years I’ve moved from brutal anxiety to a sort of pop melancholy,” said Reed. “Falling Apart, to me, is the natural state.”

“We are always falling apart and rebuilding. You just try to stay positive and put one foot forward despite the shifting ground, accepting that brought about a sense of contentment. Especially after having a lot of big changes in my life. But it’s also depressing to always be moving, to never feel fully sated—to never be comfortable.”

Stream the distantly ambient ‘Twin Peaks’ below; the song also soundtracks a life hack for avocado eaters. Falling Apart is due out July 7 via Kinky Beggar, and the decidedly creepy album art is a still of a 1972 hyperventilation performance by Tom Sherman.
