The Hydra gears up for autumn with Bank Holiday triple bill starring Robert Hood, Carl Craig, Matthew Dear and more

The many-headed beast makes a home in east London.

The Hydra is back for the third year running with another enormous season of bookings, eschewing the venue-hopping of previous years to settle down at Wapping’s Studio Spaces.

The 12-week autumn series kicks off with a triple-billed Bank Holiday special, starting on Friday, August 22 with a Resident Advisor-curated whopper led by Detroit don Carl Craig, sample whizz Matthew Herbert and masked man Zomby. Also billed are Gilles Peterson, Black Coffee, Livity Sound (live), Mo Kolours, A Made Up Sound, Vester Koza and Mr Tophat & Art Alfie.

On Saturday 23, Ghostly International will field label boss Matthew Dear (DJ set), Midlands techno lad Mark E, New Jersey synth fanatic Com Truise (playing live) and 100% Silk producer Fort Romeau.

If even those two nights seem a little lightweight for your tastes, steel yourself for Sunday’s ridiculous Blueprint night celebrating 20 years of Robert Hood’s M-Plant label. In the headline slot is the Detroit legend himself presenting The Grey Area, his ultra-deep take on his city’s techno lineage, while support comes from Blawan, DVS1, Luke Slater, James Ruskin, Mark Broom, Pariah, Rødhåd, Shackleton, Sigha, Sunil Sharpe and Tessela. Blimey.

All three of those nights take place at Studio Spaces, which is currently being extended to the raw warehouse space next door to provide a two-room, 1300-capacity venue. Pick up tickets from The Hydra’s website and keep an eye out for more annoucements about the rest of the season.

Robert Hood turned in a spectacular FACT mix under his Floorplan guise last year – check it out below and see the full listings underneath.
