Influential jazz bassist Charlie Haden has died, aged 76.
A member of the Ornette Coleman Quartet, Haden went on to lead his own groups, most notably the Liberation Music Orchestra. His death was confirmed by his wife Ruth Cameron; for several years Haden had suffered from post-polio syndrome.
For an explanation of Haden’s influence, we’d recommend Nate Chinen’s obituary for The New York Times (via Philip Sherburne).
