This summer, FACT’s US team headed out to Montréal for Mutek 2014, and encountered a scene unlike any other in North America.

John Twells, Chris Kelly and Bryan McKay spoke to a selection of the next generation of Montréal artists – Woulg, Bataille Solaire, Marie Davidson and Magnanime – and asked them about what makes Montréal so unique and diverse, and how the scene has morphed so rapidly over the last few years. All four artists were highlighted at Mutek this year, and share very different views on the direction the city has taken, as free parties (the breeding ground for experimental music) have been stamped out and rent prices continue to escalate.
