Detonating in Dalston.

Following the announcement that Thurston Moore had put together a new band, under the name of The Thurston Moore Band, the ex-Sonic Youth guitarist took over NTS Radio on Tuesday this week and followed that with a surprise gig at Cafe Oto on Thursday.

Fan footage of the show has now emerged, with the protest single ‘Detonation’ available to watch below in all its rough and ready glory.

As per the announcement, joining Moore on stage were Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley, My Bloody Valentine’s Debbie Googe and Guapo’s James Sedwards.

In related news, Moore has also announced another tape release on Blank Tapes, the label who handled ‘Detonation’. Sun Gift Earth is due out August 25 and features a heavy line-up of collaborators for a dedication to Sun Ra, who celebrated his 100th anniversary this year.

Update: Thanks to the commenters for pointing out the Thurston Moore Band’s first gig was in fact at Field Day and not at Cafe Oto as first published.
