Richie Hawtin to receive Outstanding Contribution to Music award at AIM Independent Music Awards

Techno figurehead Richie Hawtin has been honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at this year’s AIM Independent Music Awards.

The judging panel noted the Minus chief’s “incredible body of work” as a DJ, producer and record label owner, with Mixmag editor Nick DeCosemo describing him as “a true futurist to whom spotting or starting trends in music, art or technology is second nature.”

Hawtin will receive the award alongside Innovator Award winner Steve Goodman, AKA Hyperdub boss Kode9, at the AIM Awards ceremony in London on September 2.

This year Hawtin released EX, his first album as Plastikman for over 10 years, a collection of seven new tracks recorded live at New York’s Guggenheim museum. Dig into the Canadian mastermind’s catalogue with Mind In Rewind: Richie Hawtin’s 20 Best Deep Cuts.
