Talib Kweli blasts CNN coverage of Ferguson shooting live on-air

Brooklyn MC lets rip at CNN anchor.

Talib Kweli railed against media coverage of the shooting of Michael Brown yesterday in a fiery interview broadcast live on CNN. Reporters have “done a horrible job in getting the story out there the right way,” he told reporter Don Lemon, challenging the news network’s coverage of the protests sparked by the killing of the unarmed black teen.

“We live in a world that’s run by white supremacy and that’s the narrative and language of the oppressors taking over,” said Kweli, pointing out that headlines like ‘Ferguson Calm Until Bottles Fly’ contribute to biased reporting of the protests.

Lemon attempted to defend what he thought was balanced coverage of the events, but the pair ended up getting into a heated argument, with Kweli threatening to walk off camera at one point. Watch the full interview in the video below.

Kweli follows J.Cole, Nelly and Killer Mike as the latest rapper to join the protests in Ferguson. Killer Mike penned an essay on the subject for Billboard earlier this week.
