Houston radio station changes from all-news to all-Beyoncé format

“I be on the hotline, like erryday / Makin’ sure the DJ know what I want him to play.”

Houston’s first FM all-news radio station, News92, has come up with a novel solution for years of poor ratings and “significant financial losses” — a change to an all-Beyoncé format. News92 is now B92-FM, a station dedicated to Houston’s greatest musical export.

“She’s Queen Bee. In looking to make a transition, we go back to what we know,” said Yashima Azilove, of station owners Radio One. “We know urban radio. We’re in Houston, the combination seemed like a winning one.”

In making the transition, 47 employees were laid off. “They gave it their best shot. Management lost money on this operation for four straight years,” said one of the laid-off employees, Dennis Spellman. “I can’t think of any other company that would have given us that amount of time.”

It may be a stunt as the station transitions to an urban format full-time, but in the meantime, listen to Beyoncé radio via their live stream. [via ABC13]
