Hieroglyphic Being to collaborate with Sun Ra Arkestra on album of "experimental electronics and improvisational jazz"

The Sun Ra obsessive is collaborating with his hero’s long-running ensemble.

Chicago DJ and self-described “rhythmic cubist” Hieroglyphic Being is working with members of cosmic jazz pioneers Sun Ra Arkestra on an album of “experimental electronics with improvisational jazz”.

Hieroglyphic Being & the J.I.T.U Ensemble will release an album titled We Are Not the First on New York label RVNG Intl in the first quarter of next year, according to an interview with Wondering Sound.

“The heads at RVNG Ltd had wanted to work with me for about two years, but I kept being hesitant because I felt like I wasn’t ready,” the producer born Jamal Moss explains. “I came around eventually. They wanted me to do with I do with machines, but with humans. I sum it up as another learning experience that will help me grow as a creator — to merge the worlds of what I do and what has influenced me, in order to spark others into pursuing the same in kind.”

Moss just dropped a two-track on Technicolour and a compilation for Planet Mu, Seer of Cosmic Visions, while Sun Ra’s posthumous career has been edging further into dance floor territory lately, with Detroit’s Mike Huckaby releasing a 12″ of jazz edits on Strut next year.
