Experimental rockers The Pop Group announce first new album in 35 years

The reunited rockers have recorded a new album with the help of pop producer Paul Epworth.

The Pop Group first gained notoriety in the late 1970s for their dissonant brand of experimental post-punk that incorporated elements of dub and free jazz. The influential four-piece split up in 1981 before reuniting in 2010 and embarking on their first ever UK tour earlier this year.

The Pop Group have today unveiled Citizen Zombie, their first album since releasing For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? way back in 1980. Although the band are known for their envelope-pushing, experimental sound, they have enlisted none other than pop super-producer Paul Epworth (the man behind Adele’s 21) to produce the album.

“The energy is still there, the ideas are still there, it still fizzes with a life that most young bands just don’t have,” Epworth said of working with The Pop Group.

The Pop Group’s Citizen Zombie will be released on February 25. You can stream the album’s title track below.
