It’s finally happening.

Speculation about D’Angelo’s long, long-gestating third album has run rampant the last few years, without much to show for it.

Now, it looks like the album is finally ready for the masses. Red Bull Music Academy and Afropunk have announced an exclusive listening party for what is billed as D’Angelo and The Vanguard’s Black Messiah. The party takes place December 14 in New York and you can RSVP now (since posting, the page has been hidden behind an access code).

There is a brief teaser for the album below; leaked artwork is circulating on Twitter with a possible release date of December 16. The Black Messiah will bring his “Second Coming” tour to Europe in 2015. [via CoS]

Update: Red Bull have announced they will premiere the studio version of ‘Sugah Daddy’ from the new D’Angelo album on December 14 at 12am PST/3am EST via their 20 Before 2015 website. The track will be good for 1,000 downloads after which it will revert to streaming only. The song was first premiered on the D’Angelo’s 2012 tour.
